Cross River State Assembly Partners with State Police on Security

In a bid to strengthen the cordial relationship between the Cross River State House of Assembly and Nigeria Police in the state, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Willaims today led other principal officers on a courtesy visit to the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Kayode Akande at the Police Headquarters, Diamond Hill, Calabar.

The Speaker commended the efforts of the Commissoner since he came onboard, while describing CP Akande as a man of action, he said “we know when you were here and you are the kind of commissioner we need now, Cross River State is known for peace and we believe you are taking us back to where we were.

“We represent the people, and some of us come from areas that are very volatile and tough, let us work together and have that synergy to maintain peace in our communities”, the Speaker said, pointing out that a synergy between the lawmakers and the police was needed to flush out criminals from the state.

Responding, CP Akande said, “The legislature remains a dependable ally in successfully combating crime. He said he had held several meetings with other relevant stakeholders, including the executive, judiciary and traditional rulers since assuming duty and that the visit by the lawmakers was timely to join forces and collaborate. He assured his determination to change the narrative of crime and criminal activities in the state.

The CP stressed that real policing is at the divisional level. “Our main aim is to empower our divisions, so if there’s a problem we can react adequately especially at the community level”, he maintained.

On the visit with the Speaker was the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, The Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, Chairman House Service and Security, Hon. Elvert Ayambem and the Clerk, Barr. Bassey Ekpenyong.
