Conference of Speakers Harp on Financial Autonomy

Conference of speakers of state legislatures of Nigeria, rose from a general meeting, weekend with a call on all state houses of Assembly to ensure the passage of the Funds Management Bill in their respective state Houses of Assembly https://crsassembly.com.ng/conference-speakersfor effective implementation of the Financial Automomy for the state Legislature and Judiciary.
The Conference decried the spate of insecurity in the country and called on the Federal Government to tinker with the security architecture in the county to reflect the demographic reality of the country.
Specifically, the conference advocated for community policing as a way out of the problems.
In a Communique issued at the end of the general meeting and signed by the Chairman, Rt Hon Abubakar Y Suleiman, the Conference appealed to PASAN to exercise restraint on its struggle, saying that a Committee has been set to engage the Association.
The conference expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed for his warm reception extended to members of the Conference during their stay in the state for the conference general meeting from 26th to 28th March, 2021.
The conference set up a Constitutional Review committee with the terms of reference to include articulating and submission of the inputs of the Conference of Speakers of state legislatures of Nigeria in the ongoing review of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The general meeting held at Hisbah Event Center, Bauchi, was exclusive to Speakers only or their representatives and deliberated on a range of issues, the major of which is the “insecurity in the country and ways forward”.
The technical session was attended by the Speakers, one member each from the state houses of Assembly and the Clerk of the Assemblies and presentations were made by three resource persons on relevant topics.
Members of the Conference later paid a visit to His Royal Highness, The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwan Suleiman Adamu who thanked them for the visit and urged them to be steadfast in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities to the people.
